Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Nero4U® products and how they work.

General

Nero4U® is a South African range of environmentally friendly sanitisation, water treatment, and waste management products. All formulations use non-toxic, biodegradable active ingredients as effective alternatives to traditional chlorine and alcohol-based chemicals.

Yes. Our sanitisers and disinfectants are alcohol-free and child-friendly. However, all products should be kept out of reach of children in their concentrated form. Avoid eye contact and do not ingest. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting — drink large amounts of water and seek medical attention.

Our products are independently tested and certified to European EN standards. Depending on the product, certifications include EN 1276 / SANS 51276 (bactericidal), EN 13697 / SANS 53697 (bactericidal for surfaces), and EN 14476 (virucidal). Specific certification numbers are listed on each product label.

Yes. All Nero4U® products are biodegradable and environmentally friendly. They contain no copper sulphates, chlorine (in water treatment products), or alcohol (in sanitisation products), making them safe for discharge into the environment when used as directed.

Keep away from direct sunlight and do not store close to strong oxidisers or reducing agents. Store in a cool, dry place.

The core active ingredients across the sanitisation and water treatment range are N-N Didecyl Dimethyl Ammonium Chloride, Polyhexamethylene Biguanidine, and N-Alkyl Dimethyl Benzyl Ammonium Chloride. The enzyme range uses a different formulation based on Lipase, Protease, Amylase, Hemicellulase, Lactase microbes, and pH stabilisers.

Yes. We supply to the food and hospitality sectors, hospitals, clinics, agriculture, wastewater plants, and more. Minimum order quantities apply for bulk orders. Please contact us for commercial pricing and supply arrangements.

Pool Care

It uses a combination of non-chlorine active ingredients to kill bacteria, viruses, fungi, and algae in pool water. It is a complete substitute for chlorine, clarifying algaecides, flocculants, and filter aids — meaning fewer chemicals and less maintenance overall.

2 litres treats up to 50,000 litres of pool water. For a standard residential pool (typically 30,000–50,000L), one 2L bottle is sufficient per monthly treatment.

Once a month. Simply reapply every 4 weeks to maintain continuous sanitisation and algae prevention.

No. You must neutralise existing chlorine before switching — use a chlorine neutraliser, or stop dosing for at least 10 days beforehand. Once treated with Nero4U®, chlorine is no longer required.

Yes. Once diluted in pool water, it is softer on skin and eyes compared to chlorine. The concentrated product should not be applied directly to skin.

No. The product is non-corrosive and contains no copper sulphates, making it safe for all pool surfaces, pumps, filters, and plumbing.

Yes. After initial application, backwash for 2 minutes daily for the first 3 days, then once per week thereafter. This helps clear any residual matter as the product works.

Enzymes

They are a blend of natural enzymes — including Lipase, Protease, Amylase, Hemicellulase, and Lactase microbes — designed to break down organic waste. Available in granular sachets and liquid form, they are fully organic and biodegradable.

They boost the effectiveness of sewage treatment plants, clean and maintain grease traps, break down livestock and agricultural waste, eliminate odours, and reduce pests and insects. Applications include abattoirs, food processing plants, hospitality, wastewater treatment, and agriculture.

Yes. The enzyme products are fully septic tank safe. The recommended dosage for septic tanks is 1 per 100,000L. For household use, pour 100ml directly into the toilet monthly.

For household septic systems, a monthly application of 100ml via the toilet is recommended. For commercial grease traps and wastewater plants, dosage frequency depends on the volume and load — contact us for tailored recommendations.

All three use the same natural enzyme technology. The Microbial Enzyme Granules (sachets) are designed for sewage systems, grease traps, and heavy-duty waste breakdown. The Grime Away spray targets surface-level grease and grime in kitchens and commercial areas. The Bathroom & Kitchen Cleaner is formulated for daily household surface cleaning where enzyme power replaces harsh chemicals.

The microbial enzymes are effective across a pH range of 4.5 to 9.5, making them suitable for a wide variety of waste and cleaning applications.

Yes. The enzymes break down the organic matter that causes bad smells, effectively eliminating odours at the source rather than masking them. They also help reduce pest and insect attraction that comes with organic waste.
